OVERWATCH II
HOLD YOUR GROUND
MOTION DESIGN / COMP
BRIKK / BLIZZARD
SUMMARY
BRIKK was producing the OWCS World Finals anthem video featuring Overwatch 2‘s new character Vendetta, and I got to design and produce the slightly-slimy-tentacle-like black strands and the also-quite-slimy-but-giant background portal elements. Actual hands-on After Effects work instead of art directing from a safe distance, the kind of thing that reminds you why you started making stuff in the first place.

STRANDS AND PORTALS
BRIKK needed specific effects elements [the black strands and portal background for Vendetta] that would integrate seamlessly with their animation while maintaining the intensity the character and anthem demanded.
Jumped in and worked directly in After Effects, flailing in pure panic as well as testing different techniques to achieve the visual language BRIKK was building. The strands and portal needed to feel organic and kinetic without overwhelming the character animation.
Tight collaboration, quick iteration cycles, problem-solving at the craft level rather than from a distance.
The “Hold Your Ground” anthem launched for the OWCS World Finals and seem to have resonated with the Overwatch community. Though I stepped away before completion due to scheduling, the foundational elements I contributed helped shape the final piece, and working alongside BRIKK’s steamroller team was exactly the kind of hands-on creative collaboration I’d wanted to do for a long while.

WRAP UP
Sometimes the most fun or exciting projects aren’t the biggest ones, I’d say sometimes they’re the ones that remind you why I love the actually make things. This was one of those.
