SUMMARY
A quick but fun to make launch trailer for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch, announcing crossplay with Xbox, reaching a whopping 4.9 million views on YouTube.
I wrote the treatment and jumped straight into the game with a small crew, corralling master builders to tweak the world to my liking. Then came the fun part: recording us walking, building, fighting mobs, running for our lives, flying, and swimming through the chaos to get the shots we needed. We cut that together with two actors gaming on Switch and Xbox, and POW, suddenly the world knew Minecraft was now cross-platform.

PROJECT
Client: MOJANG
Studio: North Kingdom
Year: 2018
Mojang needed a fast-turnaround trailer to announce Minecraft’s new cross-play between Nintendo Switch and Xbox. The constraint was that everything had to be captured in-engine, using only the vanilla Minecraft look and feel. No custom renders, no new animations.
MY ROLE
I created a simple storyline of two players teaming up inside Minecraft, then directed a small crew to bring it to life. We worked with Mojang’s feedback to highlight the right features, customized environments with master builders, and recorded the action ourselves. That meant fighting mobs, running, flying, and swimming while managing in-game cameras to capture dynamic shots.
RESULT
The final YouTube trailer showcased seamless cross-play in a way that felt authentic to Minecraft’s style. It went on to reach 4.9 million views, proving that even a quick project under tight constraints could deliver massive reach and impact for a global client.
